Kindred’s Response to COVID-19

At Kindred Healthcare, we continue to effectively manage through the pandemic, singularly focused on keeping our patients and team members as safe and prepared as possible. We receive near-daily updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American Hospital Association, Federation of American Hospitals, World Health Organization, The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, Healthtrust GPO, and state and local health departments, and incorporate that guidance into our best practices. Our highest priority is protecting our patients, our team members, and our communities from exposure to this virus by a measured, science-based series of interventions that range from PPE usage to rapid testing to evidence-based care.

The latest such intervention is the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. We work closely with state and local entities to ensure that our frontline caregivers are among the first to receive the vaccines as vaccine distribution continues. Within the first month of distribution in the U.S., for instance, more than half of our caregivers had received the first dose and a quarter of those had received the second dose.

Since the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, our long-term acute care hospitals have treated record levels of patients while our inpatient rehabilitation hospitals have outpaced national averages in every quality measure, showcasing the value of these post-acute care settings to the nation’s healthcare continuum. Despite the many challenges the pandemic presents, Kindred continues to deliver upon our vision of providing hope, healing and recovery to the patients we serve.
