Ross
“The staff here at Kindred saved my husband’s life!”
Ross tested positive for COVID-19 at home and a few days later had to be admitted to a general hospital when he began to have increasing difficulty breathing.
Learn more about Ross
As his condition worsened he had to be placed on a ventilator when his lungs failed and he developed acute kidney failure as well, requiring intensive blood filtration until he began to stabilize and could receive standard dialysis. Ross was able to be transferred to Kindred Hospital Lima to receive respiratory therapy and begin his rehabilitation. As he began to recover Ross became more engaged with his therapy sessions; and although he faced some challenges along the way, with constant support and encouragement from his wife, Kirsten, and diligent care from his team, he successfully weaned from the ventilator. He then worked hard with his speech pathologist to recover his voice and begin to eat and drink a normal diet, and his rehab team guided his physical recovery. Ross gained greater strength, mobility and independence every day and was able to get back up on his feet, walk with a rolling walker, and be independent with the tasks of daily life. His kidneys also recovered and he no longer needed dialysis.
“The staff here at Kindred saved my husband’s life!” Kirsten shared before Ross was discharged to return home. “Everyone from Cara, Angie, Amanda, Reagan, Josie, Tracy and Hyacinth – everyone took such phenomenal care of him! I am so glad I decided to go with Kindred and now Dr. Ojo is Ross’s PCP! The staff was always patient and kind and there for me, and willing to answer all of my questions and help with my requests. This is a top notch facility and deserve all the awards. I will be forever grateful for every single one of you – thank you for giving us our Ross back!”

Her journey was not as easy as expected, especially during the first two weeks during which she experienced significant fluctuations in her recovery. However, Donella began to recover and regained her great sense of humor and drive that made her a beloved person by all who would encounter her. Every day that Donella made gains she would become more determined and could not wait for the next therapy session. By the end of her stay at Kindred, Donella only required standby assistance and she was eating a regular diet. She was discharged to her home with home health services to continue her recovery.
