Arthur's Success Story
Arthur experienced complications related to a cardiac intervention. He required a ventilator and was transferred to Kindred for weaning. His recovery was interrupted by a stroke, but he continued to progress and was able to advance to Kindred's acute rehabilitation unit.
Arthur was admitted to Kindred Hospital Havertown from a local hospital after experiencing cardiac complications requiring surgical intervention. As a result of these complications, a tracheostomy (trach) was needed for breathing support, and a feeding tube was placed for his nutritional needs. Once he was stabilized, he was transferred to Kindred for continued medical management.
During his stay at Kindred Havertown, Arthur was completely weaned off the ventilator and his trach was continuously capped. Unfortunately, while at Kindred, Arthur was re-hospitalized after suffering a major stroke, but with his incredible perseverance, he was able to recover and return to Kindred after a short time. Upon his return to Kindred, Arthur picked up where he had left off with therapy. He continued working on speech therapy and started an oral diet. He progressed well with physical and occupational therapy and went from being bedbound upon admission to standing and taking steps with assistance. By discharge time, Arthur was a candidate for Kindred’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit.
In acute rehab, Arthur was able to walk short distances with a walker and was able to perform most self-care tasks. Arthur was discharged home to his supportive family, who have been by his side throughout his recovery. Congratulations to Arthur, who achieved several major accomplishments throughout his stay at Kindred.
