After a major heart attack, David had a prolonged critical illness with multiple serious complications, including a severe pressure wound.

AT ADMISSION

David’s complications included respiratory failure, acute kidney injury, reduced blood flow leading to left aboveknee amputation, and a severe tailbone pressure wound.

At Kindred Hospital St. Louis South, David received wound care, including wound VAC (vacuum-assisted healing), nutrition, and rehabilitation. His wound shrank significantly while physical and occupational therapy improved his mobility, transfers, wheelchair use, and daily activities.

OUTCOME

After 42 days, David transferred to an acute inpatient rehabilitation facility for continued therapy following major wound healing and functional gains.
