AT ADMISSION
Deborah was hospitalized after pneumonia, influenza, ARDS and septic shock left her with hypoxic respiratory failure, required a tracheostomy, mechanical ventilation and a PEG tube. She also faced profound deconditioning, including poor endurance and limited mobility, requiring continued specialized care.
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
At Kindred Hospital North Florida, Deborah received respiratory therapy focused on ventilator weaning, progressing to trach-collar and capping trials. Physical, occupational and speech therapy helped rebuild her strength, balance, endurance, mobility and the ability to perform activities of daily living with increasing independence.
OUTCOME
Deborah reached major recovery milestones: liberation from the ventilator, decannulation and a return to breathing room air. By discharge, she was walking with a rollator, completing self-care with support and demonstrating improved strength, endurance and independence. She discharged safely home to continue recovery.
