Donald's Story of Recovery from Stroke and Hypoxia
When Donald arrived at Kindred Hospital, he required intubation and mechanical ventilation. After working with his interdisciplinary care team, he was able to discharge to an Acute Inpatient Rehab Facility.

Donald suffered a fall with a subarachnoid hemorrhage (a type of stroke that can be life-threatening) and hypoxia (lack of oxygen to your organs). He was intubated and later transferred to Kindred Hospital Philadelphia – Havertown for specialized care and rehabilitation.
Over his 31-day stay at Kindred, Donald received respiratory therapy, wound care, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. To protect him from falling out of bed, Kindred placed Donald in a Posey Enclosure Bed, which features a canopy. Therapy helped Donald make steady progress. As days passed, Donald became more aware of his surroundings and was able to feed himself, walk with a walker, and sit out of bed most of the day.
Donald’s partner, who visited all day, every day, said Donald’s care was fabulous, mentioning caregivers Mabel and Ashley and his case worker, Jennifer, for their support.
Donald was discharged from Kindred and progressed to a brain injury acute rehabilitation unit to continue his recovery.
