After tongue cancer surgery, Earl developed pneumonia and required intubation for breathing support.

AT ADMISSION

Earl needed tube feeding and a tracheostomy. He had increasing oxygen needs and was unable to pass weaning trials.

TREATMENT AT KINDRED

At Kindred Hospital East New Jersey, Earl received wound care, respiratory therapy, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. His wounds improved, and his trach was removed. Earl’s speech reached a conversation level, and he progressed to a puréed diet. He also improved to the point of walking more than 250 feet and climbing 20 stairs.

OUTCOME

After 30 days, Earl went home with home health, returning to his wife and his drums.
