A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Sugar Land
Gay fell ill following a bug bite. When she sought care, she was diagnosed with a severe wound and infection.
AT ADMISSION
Gay had sacral osteomyelitis (a bone infection near the lower spine), an infected Stage 4 pressure ulcer, severe weakness, and impaired mobility. Her condition was so critical that a palliative care consultation was initiated.
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
At Kindred Hospital Sugar Land, specialists provided antibiotics, iron infusions, wound care, medical management, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Gay progressed from being bedridden to walking in the halls with a walker. She had her feeding tube removed and resumed eating independently.
OUTCOME
After 39 days, Gay was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation unit and later discharged home.
