Jacqueline's Success Story

Kindred Hospital Houston Medical Center patient Jacqueline poses with her care team

After a seizure, Jacqueline experienced respiratory complications requiring oxygen support. At Kindred, Jacqueline worked with respiratory, physical, and occupational therapy to regain independence before discharging to a lower level of care.

After being discharged from a local hospital in Houston, Jacqueline was admitted to Kindred Hospital Houston Medical Center following a seizure that led to respiratory complications, where she faced significant challenges, including shortness of breath and muscle weakness.

Upon arrival at Kindred, the dedicated interdisciplinary team quickly assessed Jacqueline’s condition and crafted a personalized care plan tailored to her medical needs. The primary goal was to facilitate Jacqueline's successful recovery and help her regain her independence. Initially, Jacqueline required total assistance with all activities of daily living due to severe weakness, compounded by the need for supplemental oxygen. However, with unwavering support from her family and care team including her own drive, Jacqueline embarked on a dynamic pulmonary rehab program, which included targeted respiratory breathing exercises designed to strengthen her lungs and improve her overall lung capacity. These exercises played a crucial role in enhancing her breathing efficiency, enabling her to gradually require less oxygen support.

In addition to the respiratory activities, Jacqueline benefited from the use of specialized rehabilitation equipment. This included resistance bands and pulley systems that helped in building her muscle strength and improving her mobility. The combination of physical therapy and the right equipment ensured that she progressed at a steady pace, focusing on both her upper and lower body strength. Nutrition also played a vital role in Jacqueline’s recovery. The interdisciplinary team emphasized the importance of a balanced diet rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals to support her healing process. Tailored meal plans were created to meet her nutritional needs, helping to provide the energy required for her physical rehabilitation.

Through dedicated therapy sessions, nutritional support, and personalized encouragement, Jacqueline began to regain her strength. With each passing day, she made remarkable progress, gradually increasing her mobility and self-sufficiency. Her determination shone brightly as she put in the hard work necessary to reclaim her independence.

By the end of her stay at Kindred, Jacqueline not only improved her physical capabilities but also regained confidence in her ability to perform general acts of daily living (ADLs) and self-care while passing all care plan goals. Jacqueline was able to be discharged to a lower-level care for continued strength training. The care team at Kindred wishes her all the success in her recovery.
