Keith's Success Story
Keith was sitting in his car when he was shot in the neck, suffering major neck and spinal injuries. He came to Kindred Hospital for ventilator weaning and, after making tremendous progress, he advanced to an acute rehabilitation facility.
Keith was seriously injured after being shot while sitting in his car. He suffered major neck and spinal injuries and had to be placed on a ventilator to help him breathe. He was unable to move on his own. Once his condition became stable, he was transferred to Kindred Hospital North Florida for specialized care.
At Kindred, a team of doctors, nurses, and therapists created a personalized care plan just for him. One of the first goals was to help Keith breathe on his own again. With support from his respiratory therapist and pulmonologist, he was able to breathe without the ventilator.
Keith also worked with speech and language therapy to help him speak and swallow more easily. Thanks to his hard work and progress, he was soon able to enjoy regular food again.
As his condition improved, Keith began focusing on physical recovery. With the help of physical and occupational therapists, he slowly started moving his arms and legs again. This progress gave him more independence and allowed him to take care of more of his daily needs on his own.
Keith’s journey shows the power of determination, expert care, and teamwork. Thanks to his strength and the support of his Kindred care team, Keith made amazing progress and was ready to move to an acute rehabilitation facility to continue his recovery.
