Linda was hospitalized with a bacterial lung infection and respiratory failure, then cardiac arrest requiring CPR.
AT ADMISSION
Linda’s infection was complicated by a history of pulmonary sarcoidosis (inflammatory clusters in the lungs) and interstitial lung disease (lungtissue scarring). She experienced aspiration, then cardiac arrest requiring CPR, and septic shock. Unable to come off the ventilator, she received a tracheostomy and feeding tube.
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
After transferring to Kindred Hospital Chicago North, Linda received respiratory therapy and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. She came off the ventilator, had her tracheostomy and feeding tube removed, resumed eating, and improved her mobility. Equipment was arranged for a safe return home.
OUTCOME
After 84 days of treatment, Linda was discharged home. She was eager to leave the hospital and live independently with support from her sons.
