Lorenzo's Recovery with Cervical Spinal Stenosis and Post Surgery Wound Care

When Lorenzo arrived at Kindred Hospital, he required wound care after complications following his spinal surgery. After working with his interdisciplinary care team, he was able to discharge to home with home health.

After spinal surgery, Lorenzo's surgical wound became seriously infected, landing him back in the hospital.

AT ADMISSION

Cultures on Lorenzo's surgical wound showed rare bacterial growth. He required a surgical washout and six weeks of IV antibiotics, along with ongoing wound care. He also experienced hospital-acquired delirium and severe anxiety disorder. In addition, his right shoulder and knee were injured in a mechanical fall. 

TREATMENT AT KINDRED

At Kindred Hospital Albuquerque, the wound care team managed his back wound, which showed improvement. Physical and occupational therapy helped him regain mobility, and he was walking by the time of discharge.

OUTCOME

After 99 days of treatment, Lorenzo was discharged home with home health services. Lorenzo and his wife of more than 60 years later returned to Kindred to thank the staff and physicians. He resumed wlaking and driving on his own.
