Marilyn Success Story
"I’ve been told I’m a miracle". Just 24 hours after her husband passed away, Marilyn was hospitalized with a spinal abscess. At Kindred, she was weaned from the ventilator and made steady progress toward mobility and independence.
Less than 24 hours after her husband passed away, Marilyn found herself in the hospital, suffering from hypotension, confusion, lethargy, shortness of breath, and a urinary tract infection. After being transferred between four different hospitals, doctors finally discovered the root cause: a spinal abscess.
By the time Marilyn arrived at Kindred Hospital Chattanooga, her condition was critical. She was on a ventilator, had a tracheostomy and a feeding tube, was barely conscious, and unable to move.
Within a day, Respiratory Therapy began working to wean her off the ventilator. It took several tries, but eventually, but she was eventually able to breathe independently again.
As her respiratory progress continued, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy began helping her regain movement and the ability to eat again. With slow, steady progress, she became able to bathe and dress with assistance, and eat on her own.
Marilyn expressed deep gratitude for the nursing team, saying, “They were always there, whether I needed pain relief or just a kind face.”
Now preparing to transfer to a rehabilitation facility to continue gaining strength, Marilyn reflects on her journey with faith and gratitude. “I give thanks to Jesus Christ and all the prayer groups who lifted me up in prayer. I’ve been told I’m a miracle.” She also credits her son and her identical twin for being her biggest cheerleaders.
“When I get home, I can’t wait to see my dog and go out with my friends. I have a new life to start, and I want to live every minute of it.”
