Marshall's Recovery From Stomach Ulcers and Respiratory Failure

A father of 11, Marshall developed a ruptured stomach ulcer that caused stool backup.

AT ADMISSION

Marshall required four surgeries in 20 days, then spent 30 days in the ICU. During hospitalization, he developed respiratory failure requiring intubation, and could not be weaned from the ventilator. He received a tracheostomy and feeding tube.

TREATMENT AT KINDRED

At Kindred Hospital Chattanooga, Marshall received rehabilitation therapy, speech therapy, dietitian support, respiratory therapy, and wound care. Despite difficult days and significant secretions, he was weaned from the ventilator.

OUTCOME

After a 61-day stay, Marshall was discharged and returned home with home health, excited to be around his children, grandchildren, and parents, to sit on his porch, and to go on double dates with his fiancée and best friends.
