Pam's Story of Recovery After A Life Threatening Car Crash

Kindred Hospital North Florida patient Pamela shares her story of successful recovery at Kindred

When Pam arrived at Kindred Hospital, she required physical, occupational, and speech therapy and mechanical ventilation. After working with her interdisciplinary care team, she was able to discharge to an acute inpatient rehabilitation facility.

A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital North Florida

Pam suffered major injuries during a catastrophic collision with a semi-truck.

AT ADMISSION

Pam had life-threatening injuries, including lung damage, hemothorax (blood around the lung), and a ruptured breast implant. She also had fractures of the shoulder blade, finger, collarbone, ribs, and pelvis. Breathing problems, pain, and the orthopedic injuries left her dependent on a ventilator and requiring total assistance.

TREATMENT AT KINDRED

At Kindred Hospital North Florida, Pam underwent physical, occupational, and speech therapy. She progressed from working on bed mobility and basic self-care to standing and eating safely. She ultimately progressed to breathing without a ventilator and was ready for intensive rehabilitation at her next level of care.

OUTCOME

After 85 days of treatment, Pam was discharged to an acute inpatient rehabilitation facility.
