Paul's Recovery from Diverticulitis and Complex Post-Surgical Wounds

Paul had complex post-surgical wounds after abdominal surgery.
AT ADMISSION
Paul had diverticulitis (inflamed pouches in the colon) and underwent an exploratory lapartomoy (open abdominal surgery). Surgery included extensive cutting of scar tissue with associate intraabdomnial obstruction of the ileum, ileostomy takedown (closing a bowel opening), and ileal colonic anastomosis (joining small intestine to colon).
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
At Kindred Hospital San Antonio Central, Paul received wound care, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, dietary support, IV TPN (nutrition through a vein), and dialysis. Multiple abdominal wounds improved. Therapy began once the wounds stabiliized, and Paul progress to getting out of bed and walking independently.
OUTCOME
Paul was discharged home with home health after 15 days of treatment. He was eager to return home and to work, go to the movies, and begin eating again.
