Wesley arrived at Kindred Hospital Indianapolis North on a ventilator with an endotracheal tube. Respiratory therapists trached him at the bedside and began the hard task of weaning him off the vent. Vent weaning had been unsuccessful a couple of times prior at a skilled nursing facility. Kain was driving when he had a motor vehicle accident. In the collision, he was ejected six to seven feet. Before arriving at the hospital, he exhibited labored breathing. Following two failed rapid sequence intubation attempts, a laryngeal mask airway was placed. Teofilo arrived at the local hospital’s emergency department with severe abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, generalized weakness, and shortness of breath. Isiah went to a hospital after a severe motorcycle accident that resulted in multiple traumatic injuries. The spinal cord injury led to paralysis of the lower half of the body. He required emergency surgical intervention and intensive medical management. He required intubation and mechanical ventilation, bronchoscopy, tracheostomy placement, and blood transfusions. Complications during his acute care stay included pulmonary embolism, respiratory failure, infections, and complex wound healing needs. His many complications led to a transfer to Kindred Hospitals.
