Sylvia's Success Story

Kindred Hospital Central Tampa patient Sylvia shares her successful recovery story

After undergoing surgery to treat an abdominal abscess, Sylvia transferred to Kindred Hospital for advanced wound care, antibiotic therapy, and rehabilitation.  Having made a tremendous recovery, she was discharged home.

Sylvia was admitted to the hospital with an abdominal abscess, requiring multiple surgeries. Due to her complex medical needs, she was transferred to Kindred Central Tampa for continued care and rehabilitation.

When Sylvia arrived at Kindred, she required advanced wound care including negative pressure wound therapy and drain management.  She also required IV antibiotics to fight infection and a feeding tube to combat her malnutrition.

Due to her long hospital course, Sylvia had lost some of her ability to move independently.  She required help taking care of herself and could only walk 10 feet.

With the interdisciplinary approach of her care team, Sylvia’s wound healed significantly, and she was able to resume a normal diet.  She could also successfully walk almost one third of a mile.  After making a tremendous recovery, she was discharged home.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
