Sylvia's Recovery from a Thrombosed Splenic Artery Aneurysm & Sepsis
Sylvia transferred from Kindred Hospital San Antonio to a rehab facility after graduating, where she continued her recovery.
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital St. Louis South
Sylvia was hospitalized with sepsis related to gastrointestinal complications.
AT ADMISSION
Sylvia had a splenic infarct (loss of blood flow to the spleen) and a thrombosed splenic artery aneurysm. Surgery was complicated by persistent colonic ileus (stalled bowel function) and an inability to eat.
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
When Sylvia arrived at Kindred Hospital San Antonio, she was unable to sit, transfer, walk, or perform self-care. She was extremely weak after her lengthy hospitalization. With rehabilitation therapy, she progressed to sitting in a wheelchair, performing basic self-care, and walking 135 feet with a rolling walker and light assistance.
OUTCOME
After making significant progress in her recovery, Sylvia successfully graduated from Kindred Hospital to a rehabilitation facility, where she continued building on the strength, mobility, and independence she had regained.
