Tammy had been a CNA for 20 years before retiring. She went to the hospital experiencing respiratory failure.
AT ADMISSION
Tammy was diagnosed with respiratory failure, left lobe pneumonia, failed extubation, and failed weaning. Her condition was complicated by a history of COPD and hypertension. Tammy received a tracheostomy and a feeding tube.
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
At Kindred Hospital Chattanooga, Tammy received physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as wound care, trach care, and tube feeding management. During her stay, Tammy was decannulated and needed no additional oxygen. Additionally, Tammy returned to a normal diet. She could walk to and from the bathroom and complete activities of daily living with minimal to no assistance.
OUTCOME
After 12 days, Tammy was discharged home with home health services. She looked forward to baking apple pies and cakes again.
