Thomas' Recovery With Respiratory Failure and Wound Care

AT ADMISSION
At the hospital, Thomas underwent an exploratory laparotomy. Complications included an abdominal infection from intestinal leakage, respiratory failure, malnutrition, necrotic tissue, and poor wound healing. He required bowel surgery and a tracheostomy.
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
Thomas was transferred to Kindred Hospital San Antonio and received respiratory therapy, wound care, rehabilitation therapy, and dietitian support. His tracheostomy was ultimately removed.
OUTCOME
After 33 days of treatment, Thomas was discharged to a skilled nursing facility for continued recovery.
