Valer's Recovery from Respiratory Failure
When Valer arrived at Kindred Hospital, he was dependent on a ventilator. After working with this interdisciplinary care team, he was able to discharge to a Skilled Nursing Facility.
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Indianapolis North
Valer experienced cardiac arrest, which resulted in respiratory failure and the need for a ventilator to assist his breathing. He arrived at Kindred Hospital Indianapolis North still on a ventilator after failed attempts to wean. The respiratory team helped him face this challenge, and with hard work from Valer and the team, he was weaned off the vent and successfully decannulated.
The nursing and wound care teams were also highly involved in his treatment. He arrived with a deep tissue pressure injury to his foot, as well as occipital, rectum, and coccyx wounds. These have been healed or significantly reduced in size. The wound care team also helped with his midline abdomen surgical incision.
Valer has been discharged to a skilled nursing facility, where he is excited to continue his recovery and soon get back home.
