Bill's Success Story
"I would never have gotten this far without Kindred." After hitting a deer with his motorcycle, Bill suffered serious trauma and needed mechanical ventilation for breathing support. At Kindred, he made remarkable strides toward recovery before discharging to a skilled nursing facility for continued improvement.
William “Bill”, is a husband and grandfather who was doing what he loved – riding a motorcycle – when he hit a deer. He was admitted to the hospital where he experienced several complications, ultimately requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation.
Once he was stabilized, Bill was transferred to Kindred Hospital Louisville at Jewish Hospital for ventilator weaning and continued acute care.
Bill’s first few weeks at Kindred were difficult. Through constant encouragement, he began to improve. He was weaned from the ventilator and was able to fully participate in physical, occupational and speech therapies, which helped improve his outlook. He regained the ability to stand and transfer to a chair with minimal assistance, and his diet was upgraded. All these positive steps lifted Bill’s spirit tremendously. He was soon referred to a skilled nursing facility to continue the tremendous progress he made at Kindred.
He can’t wait to get back to his wife as well as his grandson and his boxer dog, Bella. He is counting down the days until he can start hunting and home remodeling again, too.
