Joseph's Recovery from Respiratory Failure
When Joseph arrived at Kindred Hospital, he was experiencing multiple medical issues. After working with this interdisciplinary care team, he was able to discharge to an Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility.
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital South Florida - Coral Gables
Joseph was living and functioning independently with one of his children prior to being hospitalized with respiratory failure that required placement of a breathing tube. After several failed attempts at getting Joseph to breathe independently, he required a tracheostomy.
When he arrived at Kindred Hospital South Florida – Coral Gables, he was still experiencing multiple issues, including respiratory airway securement via intubation and mechanical ventilation. Managing Joseph’s ongoing respiratory failure and complex comorbidities involved an interdisciplinary team of Kindred caregivers that included nursing, nutrition, wound care, pharmacy, medical/ consulting, respiratory specialists, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Ultimately, they helped Joseph recover to the point where he could be discharged to an inpatient rehabilitation setting and continue his care.
“I feel well and lucky – now I am able to move forward.”
