Rigoberto's Story of Recovery From Osteomyelitis and Gastric Ulcer

Kindred Hospital New Jersey Morris County patient Rigoberto poses with his care team and shares his story of recovery

When Rigoberto arrived at Kindred Hospital, he received negative pressure wound therapy and was put on a special diet. After working with his interdisciplinary care team, he was able to discharge to home.

A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital New Jersey - Morris County

Rigoberto, a former military Reservist who loves to play Pokémon GO and spend time with his dog, came to Kindred Hospital New Jersey - Morris County after three days of abdominal pain and diarrhea. He also had a chronic left foot wound.

Upon admission, Rigoberto needed maximum assistance for bed mobility and edge-of-bed sitting. He was dependent for all activities of daily living (ADLs). Rigoberto had a very large, deep diabetic heel wound and a trauma wound above his foot.

Rigoberto was treated with negative pressure wound therapy, also known as a wound vac. He was given IV antibiotics. A special diet and nutritional supplement were given to help him meet the increased demands of healing and dialysis.

“My stay at this hospital was amazing – Hazel, Dom, and Gabby are all amazing. I loved when they would come in the room and just talk. They were great company.”

He was discharged on the same nutritional regimen. The heel wound had filled in nicely, and new tissue was forming.  The trauma wound had formed a scab and was also healing.

At the time of discharge, Rigoberto was independent with wheelchair mobility and able to perform ADLs. Rigoberto received a lot of support from his mom and sister. He was very excited to go home and be comfortable in his own bed.
