Brian's Story of Recovery from Myocarditis and Respiratory Failure

Kindred Hospital Sugar Land Patient Brian stands with a walker while sharing his story of successful recovery

Brian was admitted to Memorial Hospital with myocarditis and was placed on a ventilator. He came to Kindred Hospital for ventilator weaning, cardiac care, and physical therapy, and was able to transfer to an acute rehabilitation unit where he continued his PT.

A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Sugar Land

After experiencing worsening shortness of breath, Brian went to Memorial Hospital, where tests showed he had myocarditis (inflammation of the heart). His condition became serious, and he was intubated and placed on a ventilator. He was also placed on a feeding tube. Brian, whose complex medical history included kidney cancer, was then transferred to Kindred Sugar Land for specialized acute care.

Kindred’s nurses and clinical staff closely monitored his heart and breathing and managed his medications and treatments, including oxygen therapy. After his condition stabilized, Brian was very weak and needed full assistance with moving, eating, and self-care. With coordinated nursing support and intensive physical and occupational therapy, he steadily improved. By the time he was transferred to an acute rehabilitation unit, he could move in bed on his own, transfer with minimal help, and dress himself with only limited assistance.
