Aimee's Success Story
Following an episode of pneumonia, Aimee developed respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation. At Kindred Hospital Ocala, Aimee learned to breathe and move on her own again and started eating a normal diet.
Aimee, 53, was hospitalized after developing respiratory failure caused by pneumonia. During her acute hospital stay, complications required her to undergo a tracheostomy. Once stabilized, she was transferred to Kindred Hospital Ocala for continued care and rehabilitation.
When Aimee arrived, she needed the help of two people for all aspects of self-care and mobility. She was also communicating only minimally with staff and her family. An interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists worked closely with her to manage her medical needs. With their support, Aimee was successfully decannulated and weaned down to room air.
Physical, occupational, and speech therapists developed a personalized plan to help her regain her strength, mobility, speech, and swallowing abilities. Through her determination and consistent effort, Aimee made steady improvements in all areas. She grew stronger, more mobile, and was soon able to communicate more easily with her care team and loved ones.
By the time of discharge, Aimee was completing her daily activities on her own, enjoying regular meals, and having full conversations with her family and staff. She was also walking with the support of a walker.
Congratulations to Aimee on her hard work and remarkable recovery. She is a true Kindred success story!
