Denise's Recovery from Complex Wounds
When Denise arrived at Kindred Hospital, she was dealing with severe wounds and diabetic ketoacidosis. After working with her interdisciplinary care team, she was able to discharge to home.
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Sugar Land
Denise suffered from Fournier’s gangrene – a severe, necrotizing bacterial infection that attacked the flesh around her lower abdomen, perineum and buttocks. She underwent an emergency debridement (removal) of the infected tissue. Her postoperative course was complicated by diabetic ketoacidosis, in which acids in her blood reach dangerous levels.
Denise was admitted to Kindred Hospital Sugar Land for continued care of pressure ulcers and surgical debridement of large wounds. She also underwent IV antibiotic therapy, pain management treatment, and physical and occupational therapy.
Denise’s husband was very helpful and supportive as she recovered, staying by her side every day and ready to help with wound care.
Denise was able to discharge and return to her family.
“(Kindred’s) staff was attentive and kind. Some I wish I could take home with me. I will miss them.”
