Jade's Story of Recovery from
When Jade arrived at Kindred Hospital, she was dependent on a ventilator and dealing with multiple medical issues. After working with her interdisciplinary care team, she was able to discharge to an Inpatient Rehab Facility.
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Albuquerque
Jade, the mother of a 6-year-old son, came to Kindred Hospital Albuquerque following a medical emergency that threatened her life and left her fully dependent on her caregivers. But thanks to the care she received during 27 days at Kindred, Jade has regained her independence and hopes to soon return to the activities she and her son love, including playing basketball together.
Jade initially was taken to the ER of a local hospital with confusion and shortness of breath. She was found to be severely anemic and in hemorrhagic shock. Jade was admitted to the ICU, where she was placed on a ventilator and feeding tube. She received dialysis, blood transfusions, and antibiotics. She also had a serious wound at the base of her spine.
"I had my doubts at first only because I despise hospitals, but the thought was subdued by their kindness and willingness to help me get better."
Jade was transferred to Kindred, where respiratory therapists weaned her from the ventilator and helped her regain her voice. Jade also participated in physical, occupational, and speech therapy. In addition, caregivers treated her wound, and Kindred’s dietitian ensured Jade got proper nutrition to promote the healing of her skin.
Formerly dependent on her caregivers for all activities, Jade progressed to near independence. She was especially emotional when she finally reunited with her son during her stay.
Jade was able to be discharged to an inpatient rehabilitation facility. Inspired by her care team, she’s considering going back to school for a career in healthcare—or pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming an FBI agent.
