Maribeth's Recovery from Acute Exacerbation of COPD
When Maribeth arrived at Kindred Hospital, she required respiratory therapy as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapy. After working with her interdisciplinary care team, she was able to discharge to home.
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Louisville at Jewish Hospital
Maribeth, who has a long history of COPD and pulmonary hypertension, went to an emergency room with shortness of breath, confusion, and increased oxygen needs. Doctors found that she had acute exacerbation of COPD.
She was transferred to Kindred Hospital Louisville at Jewish Hospital, where she received respiratory therapy, as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapy. At Kindred, her respiratory status improved, and she was able to drop from 11 liters of oxygen support back to her home baseline of 5 liters.
As she got better, Maribeth was excited to be able to finally shower, walk the hallway, and have chips and a soda. Maribeth, who lives with and cares for her elderly mother, is excited to be going back home to her family and her cats.
“This place has been amazing! I didn’t know much about this place before coming here, so I was skeptical. But, boy, was I wrong! I want to thank Dianne and Brigette, especially, as they took excellent care of me.”
