Paul's Story of Recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury and Respiratory Failure
When Paul arrived at Kindred Ocala, he was dependent on a ventilator and unable to communicate or swallow. After working with his interdisciplinary care team, he was able to discharge to a skilled nursing facility.
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Ocala
Paul was admitted to a local hospital due to respiratory failure and a traumatic brain injury. He required a tracheostomy, mechanical ventilation, and a feeding tube. Once stabilized, Paul was transferred to Kindred Hospital Ocala for ongoing care.
Upon admission, Kindred’s interdisciplinary team implemented an aggressive respiratory approach, successfully decannulating and weaning Paul to room air.
Paul initially required assistance for all aspects of self-care and mobility. He was unable to communicate or swallow. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy evaluations were conducted to assess Paul’s functional deficits in mobility, self-care, and speech.
Paul diligently participated in all his therapies and improved significantly in strength, mobility, communication, and swallowing.
Paul can now complete all aspects of his daily activities with someone nearby for support. He can engage in conversations, walk with a walker, and consume regular meals. Congratulations, Paul, for your remarkable recovery and success at Kindred Hospital Ocala!
