Penny's Success Story
"I couldn’t have asked for better care!" Penny came to Kindred Hospital Ocala on a ventilator and progressed to an inpatient rehabilitation facility after regaining her breathing independence.
Penny, 63, was initially hospitalized due to respiratory failure. Due to a complicated hospital course, she required tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation. Once she was stabilized, Penny was transferred to Kindred Hospital Ocala for the continuation of her care.
Upon admission, Penny required assistance with mobility and self-care tasks. She was evaluated by our respiratory team consisting of physicians, pulmonologists, and respiratory therapists and immediately began weaning off the ventilator.
Penny was eventually decannulated and weaned down to room air. Our physical, occupational and speech therapy teams evaluated Penny and began helping her with mobility, self-care, speech, and swallowing. She was motivated and worked hard in therapy.
Prior to Penny’s discharge to an inpatient rehabilitation facility, she was able to complete daily activities with little assistance, walk with a walker, eat regular meals and hold conversations again. Congratulations Penny, you are a true Kindred success!
