Experienced specialty hospital leader now oversees 38-bed long-term acute care hospital for medically complex patients
ST. LOUIS – Vearnail Rowe Herzog, a healthcare leader with more than 30 years of experience, including 13 years as a specialty hospital chief executive officer, recently became CEO of Kindred Hospital St. Louis South.
At Kindred, Herzog oversees all strategic planning, finances, operations, and personnel for the 38-bed long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) that specializes in treating medically complex patients recovering from serious injury or illness, including individuals who come directly from the ICU.
Herzog came to Kindred Hospital St. Louis South after serving as an LTACH CEO since 2012. Most recently, she served as CEO of PAM Health Specialty Hospital of San Antonio Medical Center. Prior to that, she spent 11 years as CEO of Allegiance Specialty Hospital of Greenville (Mississippi), a long-term acute care hospital. In both roles, she helped recruit physicians and providers and expand services.
“It’s an honor to join Kindred Hospital St. Louis South as CEO and to support our talented, compassionate caregivers in providing high-quality care to our patients,” Herzog said. “Kindred Hospitals are national leaders in specialized care for medically complex patients, and I’m excited to be part of their team. I look forward to building relationships with other health systems in our community and helping raise awareness to providers and referral sources of the broad capabilities of Kindred Hospital St. Louis South in delivering excellent patient outcomes.”
Herzog’s healthcare experience also includes serving as Chief Operating Officer of Delta Health and Vascular Center in Greenville, Mississippi; as a grant-supported physician recruiter for the University of Arkansas who helped recruit physicians to rural areas; and as Chief Compliance Officer of Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village, Arkansas.
“With her experience as a specialty hospital CEO, Vearnail Herzog is a perfect fit to lead Kindred Hospital St. Louis South.” said Nakia Tremble, Senior Vice President, Specialty Hospital Operations, for ScionHealth, which is the parent company of Kindred Hospitals. “Vearnail has a deep understanding of the unique needs of our medically complex patients and the operations and finances of a long-term acute care hospital. In addition, she has a track record of recruiting physicians and growing service lines that will enhance our care. I am excited to see the impact Kindred Hospital St. Louis South will make under her leadership.”
