Alice's Success Story
After undergoing an emergency hysterectomy, Alice came to Kindred hospital with respiratory, kidney, brain, and blood conditions. She received aggressive respiratory management and comprehensive rehabilitation before discharging to an acute rehab unit.
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Brea
Alice was admitted to the ICU where she was diagnosed with a bacterial infection of her amniotic fluid, toxic shock syndrome, and hemorrhagic shock, requiring an emergency hysterectomy. After reaching a stable condition, she was transferred to Kindred Hospital Brea for specialized care.
Upon admission to Kindred Hospital, Alice had respiratory failure secondary to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), infected blood clots, an acute kidney injury requiring dialysis, and brain condition resulting from an imbalance in the body’s chemicals.
Initially, Alice was unable to communicate, was bed-bound, and required tube feeding. Her care plan included aggressive respiratory management, ventilatory weaning, and a comprehensive rehabilitation program.
Over the course of her stay at Kindred Hospital Brea, Alice demonstrated remarkable progress under the guidance of our interdisciplinary care team. She was gradually weaned off the ventilator, successfully decannulated, and transitioned from tube feeding to tolerating an easy-to-chew diet. By the time of her discharge, Alice able to move in bed with just a supporting hand and required minimal assistance in transferring from the bed to the chair. Her voice returned to baseline, and she was actively participating in her care.
After two months, she was safely discharged to an acute rehab facility (ARU) for continued recovery.
