Anna's Success Story

Anna patient at Kindred Hospital Sugarland stands with her support staff

Anna was admitted to Kindred Hospital Sugar Land for respiratory therapy and comprehensive rehabilitation. Through dedication and prgress under the care of an interdisciplinary team, she successfully completed her care plan and was discharged to a lower level of care for continued recovery.

Anna was admitted to Kindred Hospital Sugar Land after being discharged from a local hospital in the Houston area, where she received extended medical care and rehabilitation. The focus of her primary care in Kindred was on respiratory therapy and comprehensive rehabilitation, which included physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.

Despite her complicated medical history, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and seizures, Anna remained determined not to let these challenges define her. Before her admission, the interdisciplinary team carefully assessed Anna's condition and developed a personalized care plan tailored to her specific needs.

During her admission, Anna required assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and self-care, which included tasks such as bathing, dressing, and grooming. This support was crucial in helping her regain independence. Throughout her stay, she actively participated in rehabilitation and pulmonary rehab breathing exercises designed to enhance her respiratory function. These exercises included diaphragmatic breathing, pursed lip breathing, and incentive spirometry, which helped improve her lung capacity and oxygenation levels. The team emphasized the importance of these breathing techniques, enabling Anna to manage her respiratory challenges more effectively.

In addition to respiratory exercises, Anna utilized various rehabilitation exercise equipment, such as resistance bands, stationary bikes, and treadmills. These tools were essential in strengthening her muscles and improving her endurance. Under the guidance of her physical therapists, Anna progressed significantly, eventually achieving the remarkable ability to ambulate 200 feet with the assistance of a rolling walker.

In speech therapy, Anna focused on regaining her communication skills, and incorporated breathing techniques to ensure clear and effective speech. This comprehensive approach helped her make significant strides in her recovery.

Through hard work and determination, Anna successfully completed all aspects of her care plan. Her commitment to her rehabilitation journey paid off, and she was ultimately discharged to a lower level of care for additional rehab and strength training. On behalf of the entire care team at Kindred, we extend our heartfelt wishes as she embarks on this next chapter of her recovery. We eagerly look forward to witnessing her continued success in her rehabilitation journey.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
