Muhammad's Success Story
Muhammad was admitted to the hospital with a brain bleed and there developed respiratory failure. He was transferred to Kindred Hospital to breathing, moving, speaking, and eating on his own again. As part of his treatment, he need a feeding (PEG) tube and a tracheostomy tube placed for breathing support. His care team determined that he needed specialized acute care and referred him to Kindred Hospital The Palm Beaches.

His physical and occupational therapists started working with him even while he still had the ventilator to increase his mobility. Although he need to take many breaks, he pressed on and started to gain back his strength and endurance.
Working with a speech therapist and dietitian, he practiced communicating and swallowing so that he could talk and eat on his own again.
Finally, he was weaned from the ventilator and by the time of discharge to Kindred’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit, he was talking and eating soft foods by mouth.
