Ramona's Success Story

Kindred Hospital Chattanooga patient Ramona poses with her caregiver

After her oxygen dropped to a dangerous level, Ramona required a ventilator for breathing support and a feeding tube.  At Kindred Hospital she began therapy while she weaned from the ventilator.  After making tremendous progress, she discharged to a rehabilitation hospital.

Ramona had just accepted a new position when she became ill. Short of breath, extremely tired and weak she was taken to the hospital where her oxygen dropped to 70%. She ended up on a ventilator with a tracheostomy and a feeding tube in her stomach. Her care team recommended she transfer to Kindred Hospital Chattanooga for specialized care.

Upon arrival at Kindred, she started right away on occupational and speech therapy. Once her feeding tube site was healed from infection, she also began physical therapy.  She progressed quickly, successfully walking in the hallway with assistance.

After making tremendous strides toward mobility, Romana transferred to a rehabilitation hospital for continued therapy.

“When I get home, the first thing I am going to do is take a long, hot shower,” said Ramona. “Then I am preparing for my son’s college graduation in Boston.”  Keep up the good work, Ramona!

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
