Daniel’s Recovery from Respiratory Failure and Acute Kidney Failure

Daniel recovered from severe sepsis, respiratory failure, and kidney failure at Kindred Hospital, where he received respiratory, wound, physical, and occupational therapy.

A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital Philadelphia - Havertown

After surviving severe sepsis, respiratory failure, and kidney failure, Daniel came to Kindred Hospital Philadelphia - Havertown focused on one goal: getting back home to his family and continuing his recovery.

AT ADMISSION

Daniel’s illness became so serious that he required a ventilator in the intensive care unit. When his kidneys stopped working properly, he needed temporary dialysis. Although his kidney function had begun improving before his transfer, he still required supplemental oxygen and ongoing medical support.

TREATMENT AT KINDRED

Daniel received respiratory care, wound care, and physical and occupational therapy. Respiratory therapists successfully weaned him off oxygen support, and his care team was able to remove his dialysis catheter as his kidney function improved. As he regained strength and endurance, he advanced to the hospital’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit for continued recovery.

OUTCOME

Just 25 days after arriving at Kindred Hospital Philadelphia - Havertown, Daniel returned home to his parents, determined to keep progressing and someday resume his career as a production operator.
