Christian's Success Story

Kindred Hospital San Francisco Bay Area patient Christian works on his rehab games with his support team

Following a traumatic brain injury, Christian was transferred to Kindred Hospital San Francisco Bay Area for ventilator weaning, respiratory management, and rehabilitation. Having made a significant recovery, Christian was discharged home with family and home health support.

Christian was transferred to Kindred Hospital San Francisco Bay Area for tracheostomy weaning, respiratory management, and rehabilitation. After experiencing a fall resulting in a traumatic brain injury, Christian suffered from respiratory failure. He was unable to communicate his needs and he required tube feedings for nutrition. His cognitive and functional abilities were severely compromised requiring constant supervision for safety.

Christian presented with generalized muscle weakness and required assistance for all mobility. Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team, Christian made remarkable progress. He ambulated 1000 feet independently  and negotiated 5 flights of stairs. He was also weaned off the tracheostomy and remained on room air.  His voice was intact, and he tolerated a modified diet. Christian was  discharged home with the support of his family and home health services.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
