Dianne’s Recovery from Pneumonia and Chronic Pulmonary Edema
A Patient Success Story from Kindred Hospital San Antonio Central
Dianne experienced shortness of breath and blood in her chest-drain tubing after her left chest drain stopped working.
AT ADMISSION
With a history of chronic pulmonary edema and COPD, Dianne was also fighting pneumonia, high oxygen needs, pleural fluid around the right lung, and possible atelectasis (a partially collapsed lung).
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
Dianne received wound care, respiratory therapy, infection control, and dialysis. A tunneled hemodialysis catheter was placed for long-term dialysis access. Her sacral ulcer was 95% healed, and her oxygen needs fell to 1 liter.
OUTCOME
After 21 days, Dianne was discharged to a skilled nursing facility.
“Everyone here is so good, and I love all of y’all.”
