Laura’s long battle with diabetes and diabetic ulcers has led to repeated hospitalizations and eight surgeries.
AT ADMISSION
Laura went to a short-term care hospital for diabetic ulcers on both feet, increased oxygen needs, and heart failure. She underwent multiple debridement procedures, then transferred to a skilled nursing facility, but her condition declined. She returned to the hospital for more debridement and IV antibiotics before needing further recovery support.
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
At Kindred Hospital Dayton, Laura received wound care, infection control, pulmonology and critical care support for oxygen needs, and physical and occupational therapy. Therapy focused on strengthening and conditioning after so many months unable to walk. Her care supported recovery from infection, respiratory challenges, and severe deconditioning.
OUTCOME
After 30 days at Kindred, Laura discharged and returned home. She looked forward to walking her dogs again and to reuniting with her grandson, who has been her driving motivation to get better.
