Martha's Success Story

Kindred Hospital patient Martha poses for a post-recovery selfie

"Thank you, Kindred, for saving my life and getting me back on the road to recovery and independence!”

Martha came to Kindred Hospital Seattle – First Hill after four months of care in a variety of facilities, including a skilled nursing facility.  She was incredibly ill with a complex case and needed acute care to rehabilitate and recover. She had a feeding tube and a pressure wound.  She was also malnourished with almost no executive function. A compromised liver also meant she would require a liver transplant.

“The team at Kindred Hospital was incredibly compassionate and dedicated to getting me well and whole again.” Martha’s care team collaborated closely with Martha’s primary care doctor and the organ and transplant center, with the common goal of getting her strong enough to return home and continue to heal while she waited for a liver transplant.

After making tremendous progress, Martha was discharged home. “I realize now how close I came to dying and that the efforts of the care team at Kindred Hospital brought me back to healing. I cannot say enough about their impact, their kindness, and their care with patients and the staff.

Thank you, Kindred, for saving my life and getting me back on the road to recovery and independence!”

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
