Tanya's Success Story

Kindred Hospital San Francisco Bay Area patient Tanya stands with her support team

After experiencing a stroke, Tanya came to Kindred Hospital San Francisco Bay Area for ventilator weaning and physical rehabilitation.  With the help of her interdisciplinary care team, Tanya was liberated from the ventilator and began walking and eating a modified diet before discharging to a lower level of care.

Tanya came to Kindred Hospital San Francisco Bay Area for tracheostomy weaning, respiratory management, and rehabilitation after suffering a right MCA stroke. She required t-collar settings of 35% fi02 and was unable to swallow or communicate, required tube feedings for nutrition and her cognitive and functional abilities were severely compromised requiring constant supervision for safety. Tanya was severely debilitated and needed total assistance in routine nursing care for positioning and frequent turning. Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team, Tanya made remarkable progress. She ambulated using a platform walker as far as 75 feet during therapy and was weaned off the tracheostomy and remained on room air. Her voice was intact, and she was able to tolerate a modified diet. After making significant progress, Tanya was discharged to a SNF, with the goal of returning home soon.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
