Margaret Success Story

Kindred Hospital La Mirada patient Margaret poses with her care team

"I will always remember how much the nursing staff did for me and rehab for getting me out of bed."  With a diagnosis of cellulitis and respiratory failure, Margaret was transferred to Kindred Hospital for ventilator weaning.  She made excellent progress and was discharged to a skilled nursing facility.

Margaret was admitted to the local hospital with severe lower abdominal cellulitis and respiratory failure.

Once stabilized, Margaret was admitted to Kindred La Mirada. She immediately started working with our rehabilitation team and was able to progress out of bed into a wheelchair. Shortly after, she soon could stand with moderate assistance and could walk 40 feet. She was also weaned off the ventilator and transitioned to less intensive breathing support.

Margaret continued to progress to the point of only needing minimal oxygen.  She was discharged to a skilled nursing facility in for continued rehabilitation. She is looking forward to returning home to her family and her cats!

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
